Q&A: Radio Frequency (RF) Treatment For Anti-Aging

How are RF treatments different from anti-wrinkle surgeries?

Surgeons remove tissue and then reattach it, making the skin tighter by removing some excess tissue and then suturing it tighter together so that it's firmer. Like with other surgeries, this causes some downtime while you recover.

Radio frequency treatments, on the other hand, are completely non-invasive. There’s no downtime at all. We simply apply the radio frequency treatments at the surface, wherever we’re targeting, and the frequencies penetrate into the tissue, encouraging the generation of new collagen naturally. The new collagen helps reduce or eliminate wrinkles.

What is the difference between RF and treatments like botox or topical anti-wrinkle products?

Botox requires the use of toxins to reduce the pulling of the muscles around the eye and eliminate wrinkles. These toxins can sometimes be rejected by the body and cause infection or illness.

As for topical anti-wrinkle creams, many of them are likely to accomplish what they promise, in terms of reducing wrinkles. However, since these wrinkle creams are often applied along the eyelid and lashes, they can cause destruction of the meibomian glands, which are essential for keeping the eyes properly hydrated. So, while you may appear more youthful, your eyes are going to feel a lot older.

RF doesn't require any foreign substances or the use of toxins. It instead relies on stimulating the body’s natural regeneration process to reduce or eliminate wrinkles.

How many RF treatments are reccomended for wrinkle reduction and elimination?

Typically we recommend that patients have a treatment for every decade of life. If you're in your 30s you're going to need three treatments, if you're in your 50s you're going to need five.

As you get older, it’s harder to get rid of all the wrinkles, since they’re more deep set, but a repeat treatment or an enhancement about every twelve to 18 months can help maintain the effect long-term.
